Supporting Children's Grief Awareness Week UK
Would you like to be better equipped when a child is experiencing grief and loss? Children’s Grief Awareness Week UK is designed to raise awareness of bereaved children and young people in the UK, and how providing those affected with professional support can make the world of difference to their future.
The week-long national campaign is a chance to show our support for bereaved children. As well as ourselves at Jill Frampton, organisations across the UK will be raising awareness of the grieving children in their community, and those supporting them.
Did you know? One in 29 school age children in the UK have been bereaved of a parent or sibling - that's one in every class!*.
Grief Recovery UK this month (November) launched their newly updated and acclaimed 'Helping Children With Loss' programme that has been established for over 30 years. It teaches adults how to guide children in their care in completing their relationship to the pain, isolation and loneliness caused by a significant emotional loss, not just from bereavement, but from of ANY kind of loss.
Did you know? There are 3 million children living with single parents in the UK**.
Whether a child's loss is due to a bereavement of a parent, grandparent or sibling, divorce, moving house, change of school or the death of a beloved pet, the fundamental purpose of the course is to provide a structure via a series of small steps that when talking about difficult and painful feelings with children enables them to achieve recovery from and completion of the emotional pain linked to the grief and loss they are suffering.
Did you know? A parent of a child under 18 dies every 22 minutes in the UK*.
Jill Frampton, a certified Grief Recovery Specialist based in Stafford with the Grief Recovery Method UK is committed to recognising and highlighting the importance of child grief and loss, the effect that it can have on their immediate and future lives and the help and support that can be provided.
If you are a parent, teacher, carer, support worker or indeed anyone who looks after a child or knows a child that has suffered a significant emotional loss and may require support, Jill is available to talk and answer any questions you may have. If you would like to find out more information on how this programme can help you, your team and the children in your care please call Jill on 07922 520595 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We now have 14 staff members at Buckton Vale who have carried out the 'Helping Children With Loss' course. It dispels the myths so engrained in modern society and gives ideas on how we can actively support young people through their losses. I cannot recommend it enough - Deborah Brown, Head Teacher***
